I am at home now with illegal internet connection. shhhh. this is broadband, off some one else's network. so connection pretty slow and cant upload beautiful pics. hmmmm.....let me recall what i have done this week so far. its been 7am or 8am starts. Hosp is 20min walk away. I just bought a new bike to cycle there, so take abt 10min or less. Joyce's mum was so helpful when helping me buy the bike. Housemates are hilda, Emily, Kate(all in 3rd yr) and Mitch(5th yr). Its been good, but tiring. Everyday, I dread waking up, i dread going to hosp. things move so slowly. then after lunch, i purposely lose track of time doing dont know what so that i can get home in time for sun set and not need to run! how lazy is that!
what i did today: went to hosp at 8am for Medical Ward Rounds. Dr May took us, waited ard for an hour for him to come. On ward rounds, senior doctors plus the physician(snr dr) walk round to their patient's beds and talk to them for 5min, seeing if meds need to be changed or new tests need to be ordered or if they can be discharged.
9.30am: went to ward 8(infectious disease ward) to observe cleaning of a chornic venous ulcer. It was weeping and she has had ulcers for 2.5 years! they never really heal....
10-11am: eat/library reading Talley
11am-1pm: Very good tute on cardio Physical exam. We then went up to the wards, listened to this lady's chest for heart sounds. supposed to pick up something. all i thought i heard was a possible murmur(but disregarded it) and irregular irregular rhythm. murmur is a abnormal heart sound. so anyway, we go into another room.
Dr Taliana: did everyone hear the murmur?
Everyone(6 other tutemates): yes!
I look at Dr Taliana with a puzzled look: huh?( cos all i heard was abnormal rhythm)
Dr T: u kidding rite?
me: no...
then he starts consoling me, saying its ok not to hear it as a first timer....felt damm lousy as everyone else heard 2 murmurs!
Dr T: so where was the murmur heard loudest at?
Others: aortic
Dr T: no...
me: mitral
answer is correct but everyone stares at me, incl Dr T cos I said i never heard any murmur to begin with!
I explain i thought i heard it there...
1pm-3pm: cervical injury anat. but Dr Alistair is just good man, he went off into a tangent to talk abt things like presentation of acute appendicitis or explaining the word laminar
3pm-5pm: visited MR J Kelso, my patient that i am doing a follow through report on. he is being discharged mon and will miss him. the thing is, those who watch scrubs will know the head doctor there is BOB Kelso. SO whenever i so Mr kelso, I say Dr Kelso! when i talk to him/nurses/drs/frens. I always naturally say DR kelso.....oh, and i found out he has the same birthday as me! made me feel more connected to him. he is a lovely 80 yr old man. He said to me: if i am in singapore on our birthday, i will call you and we can go out for a chinese meal together! how cute is that!
shld get down to doing some study
