yes, it was in hospital. I feel so stupid for even having this incident. Something that I shld not be afraid off. Anyway, this patient came into fracture clinic(its where the doctors review your fractures, not give you one). He had a fall 7 days ago, fractured Right elbow, took some skin off left arm and left knee.
wait....just killed a cricket with mortein spray. it was horrible, after he was sprayed, he kept hopping about. Thank god it was not a hopping cockroach. Now my keyboard is slimy with mortein spray.
back to the story. So, the doctor took the dressings off his wounds, and they were so so so smelly. Thats cos the wound was not healing, it had been infected. there was pus. So, as the bandaged got off, the room stank like mad. Then doctor asks how come he never change it, he said he wasnt told to do so!!!!! this is a 40 yr + man..........so, with the thought that the dressings had not been changed since they were first put on(a week++), and the horrid smell and the gross wound with pus and flaky dried up blood.............i felt very very nauseas(i am sure you readers are feeling that now) and the room was spinning. I tried to tough it out, but just couldnt. so i walked out of the room, actually hoping that I would vomit, cos that would make it feel better. Stayed awhile in the toilet, but soon realised the smell inside wasnt that all pleasant.
Anyway, I just kept thinking how I am still so uncofortable with all this. I don't want to be dirty, I don't like patients who are not hygienic and smell nice.......I even felt so uncomfortable when he coughed.......I don't want patients that cough.....
ok, I sound so patient biased.
